Liposuction is a surgical fat removal procedure that can be performed to essentially any fatty area on the body. Liposuction sculpts the body and improves self-confidence by eliminating stubborn bulges of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise alone. Dr. Gary Rosenbaum, a board-certified plastic surgeon and the founder of Gary J. Rosenbaum, M.D., P.A. Plastic Surgery in Miami Beach, FL can address small to large bulges of the face, midsection, arms, thighs, hips, or butt utilizing this popular procedure. At a consultation with Dr. Rosenbaum, patients should candidly discuss their ultimate aesthetic goals to help him ascertain if the procedure should be performed in conjunction with a skin-tightening surgery, which may yield more satisfactory results than the liposuction procedure alone.
The ideal candidates for liposuction are:
- Adults near their ideal weight with firm, elastic skin, and good muscle tone
- Healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can impair healing
- Individuals with a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for body contouring
"Dr. Rosenbaum is the BEST. He did my reconstructive surgery 16 yrs ago after I had a mastectomy, performed liposuction of chin and lower eyelid surgery. This year I replaced both of my implants, My right implant was 28 years old and ruptured. He also performed a lower face-lift. I could not be happier with the results. I trust him completely, his judgement is impeccable as is his work. He is kind, compassionate and I highly recommend him whether you have elective or reconstructive surgery."- G.A. / Healthgrades / Feb 14, 2018
Types of Liposuction
Performed in an accredited surgical facility under general anesthesia, liposuction requires a small incision near the treatment site so Dr. Rosenbaum can remove excess fat through a cannula. It is a relatively short procedure if it is not combined with other cosmetic surgery procedures. Once the incision is closed, the patient can expect to see swelling in the area and will be asked to wear a compression garment along with bandages upon discharge.
What to Expect
Liposuction is performed in an accredited surgical center or at a local hospital as an outpatient procedure. The surgery generally takes between 1 – 2 hours to complete, depending on how much fat is being addressed and how many body parts. Liposuction can be a surgery all on its own; however, it is usually paired with other surgeries for the best cosmetic results, such as skin tightening procedures. It takes a couple of weeks for patients to recover and scarring is minimal. If a well-balanced diet is maintained, along with a healthy lifestyle, the results following liposuction surgery can last years.
